RCA's Professional Certificate in Directing for Film & Television is a 20-week intensive programme designed to develop directors through practical training, collaboration and real production experience.
Students learn how to develop a directorial vision, translate scripts into visual storytelling, direct actors, plan scenes, collaborate with key departments and lead the creative process during production.
This Professional Certificate programme is delivered by Revele Creative Academy and accredited by the African University of Communications and Business (AUCB). Students who successfully complete the programme receive a Professional Certificate bearing both RCA and AUCB.
Curriculum
What You Will Learn
The programme develops the creative, practical and leadership skills required to direct for the screen.
Visual Storytelling
Translating the written script into deliberate choices about performance, composition, movement and what the audience sees.
Directing Actors
Working with actors during rehearsals and scenes and communicating direction with confidence and clarity.
Script to Screen
Interpreting scripts and developing a coherent directorial approach to bringing them to life.
Planning the Shoot
Using storyboards, shot lists, floor plans and visual references to prepare for production.
Directorial Leadership
Communicating creative decisions and leading actors and crew through the production process.
Creative Collaboration
Working with cinematography, editing, production and other departments to realise the film.
Decision-Making Under Pressure
Developing the confidence to solve problems and make creative decisions within the realities of production.
Practice, Not Theory
Learn By Directing
You cannot learn directing simply by studying what other directors have done. You have to direct.
Film analysis is integrated throughout the programme so students can examine how directorial choices work on screen and apply that understanding to their own practice.

Lead a Production
Directing requires more than having ideas. The director has to communicate those ideas clearly enough for actors and multiple creative and technical departments to execute them together.
During RCA's production phase, students put their preparation into practice through live production, taking leadership during directing sessions and collaborating with actors and crew. This allows students to experience the difference between imagining a scene and actually delivering it under production conditions.
